Sorry this isn't that important but I was just wondering if someone has 100% fluency? If you do tell me are you really that fluent in language you are learning.

Duolingo doesn't rate anyone at 100% fluency, because Duolingo only teaches a small amount of a language, plus there's no way to define exactly what constitutes "fluent". The fluency badge is just another motivational tool, so that you are encouraged to keep working and improving. I don't think it has any relationship to real fluency in real life.

It is not possible to get 100% on Duo's fluency percentage calculator shield thing. Most courses top out somewhere between 45% and 60%, it seems.

As far as I can tell, the fluency percentage is basically calculated like this: In a sample of 100 words in the language you are learning (with "I" and "the" and "a" repeated lots of times but "antidisestablishmentarianism" only in there 0.001 times), how many words would you know? So your fluency percentage depends on how many words Duolingo classifies you as "knowing" (i.e. words you have learned which are at full/nearly full strength). The maximum possible fluency percentage is limited because Duolingo courses teach a limited number of words.

(At a guess, a few courses (Esperanto???) may teach as few as 1500 words, while others may teach much more (Norwegian plans to teach 3000+). If someone has exact figures, please tell me! Also, I could be completely wrong about how the fluency percentage is calculated.)

To give an even lower bound than you gave... the Turkish course teaches around 1200 words. :)

No, it's impossible to reach 100% on the fluency meter. It only goes to about 64-5%. This is because you will need to use other language tools to become fluent.

You probably don't have 100% fluency in your native language. And Duolingo's "fluency" badge is best ignored - the number is meaningless outside of the Duolingo system.

That was user created though, not a real fluency measure from Duolingo.

I agree, it looks pretty crazy!

Test centre is different - that tests not just the level that Duo would teach but can also test a wider range of skills and vocabulary.

Perhaps DuoLingo offers a separate image in the test center to anyone who gets a perfect score on the $20 fluency test.
