What do you want them for? Spanish has more speakers and is more practical on the american continents, French is more practical in Europe. French has still got more learner aimed resources available, even though Spanish is catching up. Spanish has more free awesome content on the web available. Both Spain and France are great destinations, both have awesome literature (not just classics but popular stuff too), movies, tv series,... I would say Spanish is easier at the beginning but gets tougher when you want to become really good, French is hard at the beginnings but later becomes mostly a puzzle of already known bits. So choose the one you like more.

Both! But right now I'm concentrated on learning Spanish. Someday I'll complete my French tree, too.

Spanish is more useful for traveling- French isn't in top ten, saying that if you live in England I find French very useful because they are just across the channel- so I'm not dissing French, I still like the language but statistically speaking Spanish is more useful :)

I always think brute numbers like this aren't very useful when choosing a language to study...

Yes, a billion people speak Mandarin but see how useful the language is to you in Reykjavik or Lima or Nairobi. Or even just on the internet.

If you want to study a language just for the studying, then any is as good as another. If you want to go to France then French is a good pick.

If you want a maximally useful language then Spanish is more useful than French by a long chalk. If you can speak English, Spanish and Arabic then there's almost no place on earth you could go and not find /someone/ to talk to.

I like both, but Spanish is easier for me and it's also more useful, especially where I live. I like how French sounds but for me writing it is hard.

To each one its special imprint, they are both great languages to learn. However, Spanish seems slightly easier than French!

I have learned to speak Spanish fluently and I think it is a very beautiful language. But I love love love French! After learning Spanish I can say it really helps with French. But along with its beauty, French has extra difficulties that Spanish just doesn't. But with that being said, je préfère le français!

I like both, so I guess it's personal preference if you're thinking of learning one of those languages. Since they're both free, you could take both and then decide which one you want to stick with.
