A long while ago I created a discussion about Duolingo idioms, you can see it Here

Our community has grown by several million since then and we've added many more courses. So, I'm curious what new idioms folks might have come up with.

What is an idiom? An idiom is a commonly used expression whose meaning does not relate to the literal meaning of its words. source

Your goal is to use an old idiom, and make it Duo related!

Here are some that I came up with back then.

2 to tagalog
"It takes two to tango" and "Barking up the wrong tree"

Drastic times 9 trees
"Desperate times call for desperate measures" (Not really sure this is an idiom so much as a saying)

every cloud A/B
"Every cloud has a silver lining"

climb two trees
"Kill two birds with one stone" (Whyyyyy)

A freeze in time saves your streak. (A stitch in time saves nine.)

A streak saved is a lingot earned. (A penny saved is a penny earned.)

A tree on the home page is worth two in the Incubator. (A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.)

Learning a new language? Just Duo it! (might get sued for that one...)

All that glitters is not a Golden Owl.

Back to Basics One. (Back to square one)

Best thing since the Incubator. (Best thing since sliced bread)

Don't judge a tree by the first lesson. (Don't judge a book by its cover)

Let the tree out of Beta. (Let the cat out of the bag)

Don't count your trees before they're out of the Incubator. (Don't count your eggs before they've hatched)

Do you have to take an idiomic sentence and turn it into Duolingo? I just took an idiomic phrase and built a Duolingo sentence around it

A skill ahead of schedule

I've got this tree in the bag

Strengthening skills will bear fruit

Learning a language will bring the house down - Does this make sense?

The Klingon tree will be a dead duck because no one wants to learn it - Just kidding, I just had to mock Klingon

A slow motivated learner beats a fast unmotivated learner (The tortoise beats the hare) - I really butchered this one

It's raining lingots and streak freezes (It's raining cats and dogs)

When lingots have purpose (When pigs fly)

Don't count your streak until you've reached your daily goal (Don't count your chickens before they hatch)

(Edited.) This might not be an idiom, but anyways, I had to Duo this. Tell me if you have any ideas on how to improve it. I also love the humour of my fellow Duolingoers.

Song of Duolingo

All that is done does not glitter,

Not all those who wonder are crazy;

The streak that is strong does not wither,

Checkpoints are not reached by the lazy.

From the practise a skill shall be woken,

A lingot from the lesson shall spring;

Regoldened shall be tree that was broken,

The owl-less again shall be king.

Minor comments on the third last line, I think it sounds better to drop "the". It messes up the rhythm and in poetry you can take some liberties with the language like that. And if the lesson finishes a skill, then two lingots spring from it.

This was good enough that some lingots sprang from it.

I tried to follow the original poem as well as I could, and still changing it enough. I'm not sure if 'two' in the beginning of the line will destroy the line in that sense. I could also, for example, switch places of 'lesson' and 'skill'.

Back to the incubator. (Back to the drawing board. Might not be how the process actually works, but it basically means that the beta version needs more work before launching.)

Not playing with a full tree. (Not playing with a full deck. Useful for those times when it is clear by someone's question that he or she has missed or forgotten a lesson.)
