Duolingo physics: the letter "o" is round, so the umlaut often slides off, resulting in a lot of "Danke schon"s. These loose umlauts rattle through the gaps in the forums, occasionally landing on an unsuspecting "u". The letter "u" is shaped like a cup, so it does a good job of trapping stray umlauts. This is of course good from a recycling point of view, but does have the unfortunate side effect of transforming delicious cake into disappointingly inedible kitchens.
I knew what had happened there... just wanted to make the point ;-)
