Timed practice

I'm a touch typist but I find it impossible to complete the timed practice! I wonder if anyone can do them all?

I used to hate the timed practice and refused to have anything to do with it. Now I love it but it is definitely an acquired taste!

When I began to use duolingo a decided that the timed practice was too difficult for me. Now I always use it . When I have easy questions at the beginning I arrive to 10 or 12 right answers. The first time I arrived to 20 I had a great satisfaction but it rarely happens.

Doug3 is right. They will become easier with practice.

When the site first started, the timed practice was MUCH faster! I never would have been able to answer fast enough, and I'm a touch typist too. For me the speed is good now-- I don't get all 20 every time, but things don't move so fast that I give up.

Just do real basic lessons until you get comfortable and then work your way up the tree. Ignore errors and misspellings. Don't bother looking to see what you did wrong. Stay relaxed. Just keep typing answers until you have to stop. Repeat lessons multiple times to see immediate improvement.

I have poor keyboard skills so it was a long time before I seriously tried it.

Well, I'm impressed that some of you don't seem to find it just a bit too fast! Don't get me wrong - I feel immense satisfaction when I do manage to beat the clock but it's usually because I've left out capitals and punctuation. And of course some answers are longer than others but you get the same amount of time - and woe betide if you make an error in spelling. But yes, I imagine the euphoria is the same as playing 'Grand Theft Auto' - not that I ever have.....(Now if only I could have said all that in French - I can't imagine moving on from 'Les éléphants roses mangent des bananes....)

I find it very fast. I just don't worry about getting perfection but instead focus on improving my performance either by success rate or difficulty of the lessons attempted.
