How to Fix the Sound on Duolingo

Hello!

I have noticed that many people have trouble with getting the sound to work on Duolingo. I have as well. But once I found out the problem, I thought that I should share it with everyone. So, here is how to fix the sound on Duolingo when the problem is on Duo's side, not your computer.

Part One - iOS App.

Step One: Open your Duolingo Settings. To open settings, tap Profile in the top left corner. A drop down box will appear. Click Settings Duo

Here is another screenshot of the Settings page. Duo

Step Two: If the problem is with the app, the Speaker will be off. Click to turn sound on and press Done.

Part Two - Computer

Step One: As with the App, open your Duolingo Settings Duo

Step 2: If the problem is in your settings, you may have all three sound settings off: Speaker, Voice Auto Play, and Sound Effects. Click the ones that are in the off position and they will turn back on. When you are finished, click Save Changes.

If the problem with your sound is not the Duolingo settings, it may be your computer. Try restarting it, closing Duolingo and re-opening it, and if you are using plug-in speakers, make sure they are plugged in correctly and turned up. Also, if you are not using plug-in speakers, make sure you check to see if your sound is just muted or turned down very low. These may seem like very simple things, but you always need to check the basic stuff.

And finally, if none of these things works to fix your Duolingo sound, try submitting a bug report

Well, I hope this helps with anybody having sound issues. I hope you all have a wonderful day, and thanks for reading!

Thanks a lot for helping others on Duolingo!

Although I did notice on your second picture that there is a red box around the "Deactivate my account" link with a red arrow pointing to it. Although this is obvious, please no one click on this unless you want to start your Duolingo journey all over again. :-D

thank you for your advice --I use two current model laptop computers a Levono laptop and a Asus hybrid. both use windows 10. Speaking to Cortana works great, Skype also works great, doulingo playback is no problem but speaking to duoling is almost impossible. The microphone problem is on duolings side not on mine. I am taking German and have found doulingos pronunciation especially the letters e,i is at best only good not great.. In English there are regional dialects, this also allies to German. In English the standard is oxford English, in German it is called Hoch Deutsch (high German). Doulingos German computer speaks with a regional dialect I believe that is the major problem with microphone use. all comments welcome!

Micrrophone issues... I don't have much knowledge on those because I never use the mic feature. I do know that if you don't know where your mic is on your laptop, that can have some effect. I use a Dell Latitude laptop and most things work very well... except trying to play the game Civilization 5.

For me the most important part about learning a new language is to be able to understand and speak. Reading and writing is not as important since the as a lot of spelling and translation programs on the internet. Once you achieve verbal communication the rest will follow. Without microphone use, I cannot see how one can attain language efficiency. Pronunciation and vocabulary go hand in hand, A child learns to speak first, the rest follows
