The personal pronoun or Це?

This is something that made me extremely curious and confused. In English one could say this:

"I have an apple, and it is red"

Here, "it" is referring to the apple. But if I have wanted to say the same thing in Ukrainian, would it be

"У мене є яблуко, і це червоне"
or
"У мене є яблуко, і воно червоне"?

If the former is the correct one, what's the actual use of the word "воно"?

It will be ""У мене є яблуко, і воно червоне", because it here is a personal pronoun, and they differ by gender in Ukrainian (він, вона, воно), it's like in German "der", "die", "das".
And це is a demonstrative pronoun, so would be translated to English as this. So you can say:

I have an apple and this apple is red - У мене є яблуко, і це яблуко червоне

I have an apple, and it is red - У мене є яблуко, і воно червоне

воно - використовуется для іменників середнього роду (neuter gender). Яблуко - воно, тарілка - вона, стіл - він.
