If you experience technical difficulties
Duolingo is doing some awesome work updating the website and some folks might be experiencing a few technical bugs at this time.
If you think you are experiencing technical issues, please try these steps first:
Refresh the page
Clear your browser cache
Close and then open the page.
On some rare occasions, new points or access to the next skill set has taken between 5 and 15 minutes to show up, and a few people have lost some lingots after trying to purchase something in the lingot store.
If you've tried the fixes suggested above and you're still experiencing technical difficulties, please post a discussion in the Troubleshooting forum, describing:
What difficulty you're experiencing
What operating system and browser you're using (for example, I'm using Windows 7/Firefox)
What you've already tried for fixing it (the suggestions I've given above.)
If you can provide a screen shot of the issue that would be very helpful. If you are unable to, just do what you can with your description.
To find the Troubleshooting forum, go to the main Discussion page and look to the right. You might need to scroll down until you see a link near the miniature flags, depending on which layout you see.
PS if you've lost lingots after trying to purchase something in the lingot by using the Support tab to the left. If this was caused by a technical glitch, it might be possible to have your lingots restored. Please be patient once you file your report. Duolingo will get back to you as soon as it can, but it might still take a little while.
I love helping out in the community :) And if they go with the layout currently used for the test group I'm in, I'm almost certain there will be a lot less for me to do.
You'll have to wait until they decide to keep it or scrap it. They are still making changes daily.
Indeed, this thread will be buried so fast even Houdini wouldn't be able to make it come back.
Since you're also using Firefox on Windows 7, I have a question for you.
Whenever you record a response on the "Click record and say:" exercises, does it sometimes, not often but sometimes, not process your recording? It happens to me maybe a handful of times a day ( @ around 15 lessons a day). It records what I said, as I'm able to play it back, but Duolingo doesn't process it and even if I wait 30 minutes, I still have to click the "Skip" button to be able to move on.
It also happens when I use Firefox on Windows XP of another PC.
I don't actually know. I don't use the microphone because I know how to pronounce the language pretty well and I just say the sentences out loud to myself anyway. I know I had some difficulties with the Android app accepting anything, but, I think everyone did.
Sometimes when my husband completes his daily lesson, the computer doesn't register it. We both make sure that we finish our daily duolingo until we reach at least our minimum points. Sometimes, it fails to record our accomplishment. My husband was disappointed to see that he had lost a long streak, due to a technical error. How do we avoid this happening again?
