Recent update on many people's troubles of Duolingo skills degrading too fast

Hi, I realized my tree degrades too fast. I browsed the discussions and I was not the only one who felt that way. Many people suggested that it's a bug in Duolingo. However, most of those discussions were 2 years old. What's the situation now? Does anyone have any tips? Will a skill stay golden after a few 'strengthenings'? When you peek and hover your mouse over the translation make it degrade faster? Does making mistakes increase the speed at which a skill degrades?

I think it depends upon the user. If someone gets the questions wrong often, has to peek at the words in the other box often, and takes a lot of time to get from one skill to the next, then their tree will stay less gold than someone who is usually right, never needs to peek, and completes the tree in a short amount of time.

"Too fast" is pretty much an opinion, not a statement of fact. Once you get things gold, without making mistakes or peeking, they stay gold for quite a while.

Refreshing word strength regularly helps, as does not "peeking" with the mouse over hints.

Most everything has already been said but I would like to add one tip. When doing strengthening exercises use the general strengthening exercises instead of the specific skill exercises. This way you will be strengthening more skills at once. Sometimes you can make 3 skills gold again in one good round.

I have been away for some weeks. When I started again two days ago I had to refresh everything. Even the first lessons ! I've done French for a year now, and finished the tree and the reverse tree. But I've never managed to keep the tree golden.

I refreshed verbe 1 in the French reverse tree two days ago, and I had to refresh it again today. I don't remember if I made any mistakes, but I made one today, and had to refresh it twice. Second time no mistakes. It took about ten minutes.

Agreeing with Elagui: If you make no mistakes for each lesson and skill, they will stay golden for 2-3 months. If you pass lessons with quite a few mistakes, the gold will fade much quicker.

Of course, if Duo runs some sort of A/B test, all bets are off.
