Even though I say "nan" myself, I think that it'd be better as grandmother, that's the more standard version. My southern English friends always remarked on my use of nan...

Yes, grandmother or granny would be better. Nan is a bit northern. :)

Isn't that from the English word Nan? Isn't there a more traditional way of saying it? Or maybe the English word came originally from the Welsh, I'd be interested to know, thanks.
