Welsh Music

Can anyone suggest good music in Welsh for the new Duolingo Welsh Community? Lingots will be rewarded for any contributions to what will hopefully become list of songs.

Looks like I made a double of your post. Oops. (I even searched before hand to make sure no one else had asked the question!) I haven't gotten to listen to any of them yet but a quick Google provided this. http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/music/sites/pop/ There are tabs on the left side of the page so you can choose Rock, traditional, Indie, etc. Tell me if you find an artist/band you like.

Edit: P.S. I don't think they all have music in Welsh (some are just from Wales) but I have found a few who do.

i can't, sorry, since i tend to listen to music in english (or finnish). i listen to bullet for my valentine, who are from wales even though they don't sing in welsh.

I heard an album by Fernhill about ten years ago. Great music, and it seemed inseparable from the language. It probably inspired me to start learning Welsh. Encouragingly, the singer is not a native speaker. She began learning when she and her husband formed the group! http://www.fernhill.info/

Spotify has lots of Welsh music and also links from one artist to another.

For classic folk you could start with Plethyn/Ar log

80's/90's rock/pop Geraint Jarman/Meic Stevens

Hard to label is '9bach' whose 2015 all Welsh album Tincian was awarded the best folk album of 2015 by the English language BBC Radio 2 (most popular radio station in the UK). Here's a comprehensive review:- https://realworldrecords.com/release/632/tincian/

I've added some welsh songs on lyrics training. https://lyricstraining.com/search?qry=cymraeg&pending=1 Adwaith are a popular up-and-coming band at the moment, having won the welsh music prize last year. Welsh music is also promoted with the annual 'Dydd Miwsig Cymru' (Welsh language music day).

These are my favourites at the moment, I'm one of those eclectic weirdos who will go from retro to new, rock to weird electropop, etc
