is there anyone who would like to watch/discuss french films? at the moment, i've not reached a standard that allows me to watch a film with solely french subtitles (only english subs), but i'm prepared to give an easy film on http://www.filmfra.com a shot and work on understanding it.
Take my advice, don't ever watch french movies with english subtitles if your motive is to learn french. Start from French subtitles so that you can comprehend the way words are spoken and each time you find a word you dont understand, translate it through google translate to know the meaning of the sentence. Also, sometimes some sentences won't make sense, this happens when the sentence is an expression or idiom, when the sentence doesn't make sense, search the whole sentence on google. I know this takes a lot of time, it took me almost twice the duration of my first movie to complete it, but it was worth it, after 2-3 movies, I find myself pausing much less often and my listening comprehension and improved a lot more than I thought it would before watching movies
Yes, La Famille Belier is a good movie to watch, I started with the movie Les Choristes which I found to be very good. If you are just starting out with listening, i would recommend watching this series on youtube called extra french. You'll have subtitles and they speak slow. After that you can move to movies. apart from the two above, I'd suggest Le prenom, Qu'est-ce qu'on a fait au bon dieu, Les Intouchables, Monsieur Ibrahim et les Fleur du coran (this is easier to comprehend compared to the others i've mentioned)
I'm watching La Cage aux folles..ha ha pretty entertaining for an older film, easy to understand as well. :D the french subtitles help me enjoy the movie more!
Merci beaucoup pour le website. C'est tres bon avoir les sous-titres en francais au lieu de anglais..
pouvez vous comprendre des films sans sous-titres en anglais ? bravo! je vais essayer de regarder un film facile, peut-être amelie.
I don't understand everything with French subtitles. But when there are English subtitles I end up reading the English and not getting much French practice. BTW I would be happy to be in a French discussion group after watching a movie. En fait, if you can't get one off the ground, I would be happy to Skype with you, one on one, after watching a French movie.
Okay. I choose the film "La Guerre des Boutons." It is on page 7 (top left) of the website that you listed above. In addition to watching it, select a movie for the following meeting. ... Now for a time. I am on Eastern Time (US). Good for me is Friday from 5 PM to 9 PM or Saturday from 7 AM to 9 PM. When you search for me on Skype use my name with a space in the middle and you will see a picture (not the same one here but recognizable). When you request to contact me, mention Duolingo, because I sometimes get weird people trying to contact me. Rudhraksh is meant for you too (as well at anyone else who is reading this, but has not written anything yet). A bientot.
i'm so sorry, barrettchapin. i've not had time to watch "la guerre des boutons" as yet. have you? i will let you know when i have - hopefully this weekend.
I have. It was good. If you want to talk about it in French. Let me know.
that would be great. for a start, shall we pick a movie from filmfra or one of the films that Rudhraksh has suggested? i'd be happy to go with any of your choices.
