We, the Korean team, are once more looking for passionate contributors to help us in our mission in order to provide free language education worldwide!
We are going to leave the expectations slightly vague compared to the last time (it would be nice if one applied with the knowledge of previous updates too) we searched for members.
We are mainly looking for users...
- Active on Duolingo
- Native with both or one of the languages
- Has experience with translation (not necessary)
- That are dedicated
- That are enthusiastic
- That are passionate
- That are creative
Lastly, we recommend all of our applicants to be unique. In the past, we have received too many bland applications stating, " I am a [blank] schooler going to [blank] school and while I do not have professional experience, I am eager to do to do this". Tell us who you are. Are you a jack of all trades, a Renaissance man? Do you specialize in anything relevant to this? Do you have any experience besides having command in both languages that might help us?* What will make you stand out? (ex. translated for the K League before, etc.)
*Knowledge in a certain subject, like programming/computer science, sports, etc. might help.
EXAMPLE APPLICATION (Not a real application)
Hi! I am Seulchan Lee, a current university student at the University of Seoul majoring in Korean Studies and Korean literature, and I would like to contribute to the Korean/English course. I am a native Japanese and Korean speaker and have lived in both Korea and Japan for 10 years each. I can also speak English due to having lived in the United States for 5 years during my high school years. I recently earned my C2 certificate in Korean and English! I have also translated/interpreted for the Pohang Steelers and the Suwon Samsung Bluewings and have translated various documents for them (press, transfer notices, etc.). I use Duolingo every day for German, and I absolutely love the service. Even though I am a busy university student, I have at least 4 hours a day to dedicate to the course. I look forward to hearing from you guys and I hope I get the chance to teach English and eventually Korean to many people in the world. Thank you!
Nice to hear from you Eradus!! <3 Hopefully the quality contributor requests flood in!
You made a post about Korean on the Reddit, but you may want to link this post to the reddit too. You may also want to hit the Korean language Reddit, they probably wouldn't be heavy on Duolingo knowledge. But if you are clawing for contributors you may find some dedicated people who can quickly learn.
Hmm... I have lots of Koreans who live in my city because they migrated to a big church here in droves. But I doubt any of them even know what Duolingo is. Much less have any interest in it. :/
Not a good sign. Even if they did apply, I probably wouldnt accept them
Korean religious fanatics are notorious
The adults will probably do the work for their non Korean speaking kids so they get something good on their CV so they cqn be a "doctor or lawyer "
How do we apply? Still new on duolingo and still looking for more to learn. I have never really done translations but I would love to beta the program for you guys and learn Korean. I am on from 15 minutes to multiple hours a day. Uh sorry just realized I sort of did an application here, not my intention but if works?
All good, keep me in mind though once you get there. I would love to be part of process of helping others to learn a new language.
