Have you lost immersion? if so let's all get together and get it reinstated .edit NOW BACK!!.

I am suggesting a group petition to persuade Duolingo to reinstate immersion, in my view the most valuable tool we have (had) got.
If this idea seems far fetched it has had some success in the past in getting glitches sorted out quickly, so if you have lost your immersion for languages which previously had it add your name to this post and please upvote it so that it gets attention.
To Duolingo staff, please note that you have a sizeable number of users for whom immersion is the main reason for being here and who have learnt more there from interaction with native speakers than by any other method.
We who have added our names here are politely requesting that you reinstate our valuable, if not invaluable tool as soon as possible.
TO ALL THE CONTRIBUTORS HERE PLEASE ADD YOUR NAME AND UPVOTE. THANKYOU .
I am also posting this in the general forum to obtain maximum exposure.
Edit. Please note once I have the names I will submit a report to support using this as evidence of the need to keep immersion.
GOOD NEWS
PER DUOLINGO STAFF IMMERSION IS NOT BEING REMOVED IT IS A TECHNICAL HITCH AND WILL BE RESOLVED ASAP ....... SEE COMMENT BY mstreeter below.
Thanks to everyone who commented and to Duo for their fast response.
BAD NEWS 20th January 2017
PER LUIS'S COMMENT HERE https://www.duolingo.com/comment/20364950 IMMERSION HAS NOW OFFICIALY AND PERMANENTLY BEEN REMOVED!
There now seems no point in trying to convince the people at Duo to return it as they clearly don't care about our opinions at all. A sad day for those of us who found immersion such a valuable resource. RIP immersion, we will miss you greatly.
Edit: I will give this one last try .... We have nothing to lose by trying, as nothing, in terms of immersion, is what we currently have!
As Immersion has now been permanently axed, despite our best efforts, THIS THREAD IS NOW CLOSED PLEASE SEE HERE https://www.duolingo.com/comment/20374000 and for an alternative to immersion see here https://www.duolingo.com/comment/22228863

Thanks for your reply, you can see the depth of feeling and we were all aware of the AB test. I will add a note at the top now but keep a note of the names and comments in case thge tests go against us.
Once again, thank you for your speedy response.

You might want to also announce this on the main discussion page. It's a tad buried here. (Someone has already announced it unofficially, but that's not quite the same.)

Thank you so much! I was really sad for a few minutes when I logged on this morning :)
As far as I can tell the immersion feature has disappeared for all the languages I was using it for. If indeed this is supposed to be a permanent removal, then I am utterly disappointed. Immersion was the one single feature that turned DL from being just another mainstream language site into an extraordinary dynamic learning environment. Without immersion, the site totally loses its meaning for me and becomes just another mediocre language site among many. Please count me in for the petition, Gena. I second everything you say. I think DL will lose an enormous amount of quality members if they are going through with this and I think they may regret it in the end.
I'm just wondering, is there any alternative for immersion somewhere on the net? Does anyone have any idea?

It's really the only reason I am here. I've been working on my Italian tree slowly, but once I finish it, if Immersion is still gone I will leave. Repeating variations on "the shark would like to bite the snake" and the like forevermore has zero appeal.
It's - as you say - the way I have learnt most from native speakers. Without it, this is a simplistic game with limited learning potential. With it, I have translated complex novels, learened refinements of language from native speakers, and challenged my vocabulary to grow exponentially beyond the basic "words" offered by DuoLingo.
I am extremely disappointed.

I'm another person who is still here largely because of Immersion. I don't know that I would go away completely if it doesn't return, but I will certainly be here less often and probably for shorter periods of time.
I think it's a glitch in the system, and a petition won't help, because petitions don't fix language-learning website glitches. Unfair, but again, life is not fair.

Petitions do fix glitches by bringing them to the staff's attention quickly, languagelover and I had some success with another glitch last year, it was fixed very quickly indeed. All it needs is for staff to be aware of the scale of the problem.

Given the general direction of things, the complete removal of Immersion is not at all far-fetched. (In case you're not aware, a decision was made in, I think, late 2014 not to develop Immersion further and lately Duolingo seems to have been running an A/B test on Immersion.)
I think Duolingo is aware of the problem, there are many posts in the troubleshooting forums, it should be fixed soon. If it happens to be a permanent remove, they will probably notify the community.
Immersion has been my favorite too in Duolingo. Please bring it back soon

I hope that this is just a temporary problem and it will be resolved soon. It would be very sad if Immersion is gone for good.

Just to let everybody know that I am still keeping a note of the names on this discussion, so if one of these glitches turns out to be permanent we are ready with the petition.

Ernesto
So have Duolingo confirmed that it's gone forever? Mine only disappeared about a week ago. I really miss it and thought it was a really good addition to the basic format. As a result I will probably lose interest in Duolingo and stop using it, and I'm sure I won't be the only one. It would be nice if they would confirm it one way or t'other.
There is a link where some former Immersion folk are starting up a translation group. You might want to check it out. It shows promise. here
Unfortunately, it has been confirmed. There is a petition going on on Change.org to ask Duolingo to bring it back. Maybe you want to add your voice there, Cheryl: https://www.change.org/p/luis-von-ahn-don-t-turn-duolingo-into-a-game?
Greetings!

They have axed immersion permanently now, despite our best efforts to save it. However, the user JoThelan has started a forum where ex-immersion users can continue to collaborate on translations. here is the link. http://communitytranslation.freeforums.net/

I can see now that this also happened a few weeks ago. I would like to know if this time we are going to take immersion back again. I hope so. It is the best resource for learning.

Immersion is basically the only reason I use Duolingo. What happened? Two days ago I was using it for an hour a day to study my Spanish.

thank you for the speedy reply :) ... I'm having a 404 (not found) instead :( ... for French and Turkish
44
Sorry about the confusion, I meant English <-> French and Turkish <-> English... I can view immersion when not logged, but not when I log in :(
I see :) No problem, you need to add those languages through your profile. Go to your profile -> configuration -> languages - "See all the courses" and change the "I speak Turkish into English and / or French, so that you can access Immersion from French into English or English into French (it depends on the language you choose) You do not lose your EXP or levels, you can go back to Turkish whenever you want. Hope this helps! :)

For what it's worth, I don't believe Turkish has Immersion. Also, some relatively new Duolingo users do not have access to Immersion at all, due, apparently, to an A/B test in progress.

I guess that is the case, because I'm unable to see it at all, I have tried going to https://www.duolingo.com/translations and logging in from there, but I only had a 404 error :(... Anyway, Thanks a lot :)

As you say Ana, at least there seemed to be a slim chance when I originally posted this but now we have no hope of getting it back. A sad, sad day.
