can you use 'ydy' in place of 'mae'?

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ydy#Welsh says that ydy is only used in questions or as a "yes" response to a question, while mae ( https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/mae#Welsh ) is the normal present-tense form for statements.

So I'm guessing now.
