Variety of questions in a module
I am learning Dutch and when I started, the "strengthening skills" module had a wide variety of questions. The further along I get (I am now up to level 11), the less variety of questions there are per module. At this point it feels like there are about 10 different phrases that it tests in a module and so I get the same phrase over and over again - going from Dutch to English, from English to Dutch, in multiple choice, in audio format, etc. It doesn't matter if I get it right or wrong, it keeps repeating the same one.
I feel like this is less effective as I then put that one sentence into my short term memory and can spit it out in all the formats in that "strengthening skills" module, but am not sure I am really really learning it.
Is this a purposeful strategy to give less variety of questions the further along one goes? Is this effective?
No, it's not a purposeful strategy. At some point we decided that the course needed a wider variety of sentences, so we put in an effort to add new ones to the beginning of the tree. Unfortunately this effort bled out a bit when we reached the second checkpoint, so you're right in noticing a difference.
Currently we are working on a new version of the Dutch course, and we aiming for 20 unique sentences per lesson. Hopefully this will create a more consistent variety of sentences across the tree.
Thanks so much for your answer! Good luck on the new version - hopefully it will be live soon!!
