Quick basics question: Mein Freund und ich kommen (like wir), or Mein Freund und ich komme?

I have been presuming the former but just decided I'd like to be sure. It seems more natural to me that the two elements would work with the ‘wir’ conjugation together, but I wonder if perhaps the conjugation would refer back simply to the immediately preceding pronoun?

Your reasoning is correct, it's "mein Freund und ich kommen". So it works the same way as it would in English ("my friend and I are coming") :)

Excellent, glad to see I've not been phrasing things incorrectly all this time! Thank you. :)

You're correct with using "kommen." An alternative that would let you use komme would be "Ich komme mit meinem Freund."
