iâr fach yr haf = pili-pala

Just saw this word in my little Welsh dictionary.

It's another translation for butterfly. I think it means 'little hen of the summer'. What a cute description.

And google brought me this:

Cornish also calls them cows :) bughik Dhuw "God's little cow". And butterflies are tykki Duw "God's little pretty thing".

actually in Polish there is an archaic name for ladybird boża krówka which has exactly the same meaning as the Cornish one. :D but it's strange to see it outside of old texts and poetry. biedronka is the commonly used one. what's the thing with cows anyway? :o
