I'm a little confused. Couldn't I say Give me, please, a hen?

The position of "please" is a little unnatural in English but I'd say it should be accepted.

Yea, I suppose most people won't actually say it this way. It sounds more like a riddle from an old English poem.

Wouldn't 'pass the chicken please' also be an acceptable translation?

But in the plane, for instance, they ask "chicken or beef?", and you could reply "give me chicken, please", right?
