Funny that chicken is considered "animate" even when it's dead and sitting in the pot lol

Is there a difference between a chicken that you are cooking/eating/buying in a shop to take home and eat vs. a chicken that is alive and running around the barnyard? In Polish, is there a difference like the difference between beef/cow or pork/pig in English?

kurczak is meat and the animal, also 'rooster' is 'kogut' and 'hen' is 'kura'. Also 'drób' is a word for all birds that are commonly eaten.

Usually we have those differences. beef/cow = wołowina/krowa, pork/pig = wieprzowina/świnia.

'Chook' is Australian for chicken and should be accepted.
