"Do you drink?" should also be accepted. This has alcohol as an implication, because it wouldn't be practical to ask someone if they drink liquids in general.

I disagree, this is specifying alcohol. Some people do not drink alcohol, they may only drink beer, wine, soda, or water. So specifying what they are drinking is necessary.

Beer and wine are types of alcoholic beverages. It would be facetious to say "i dont drink alcohol, only wine and beer."

As one who doesn't drink alcohol, if one were to ask me "Do you drink" without any other context (like physically pointing to a glass of milk or cup of coffee) I would assume they were referring to alcohol. I agree thatDo you drink" shall be accepted.

Does "Trinkst du?" imply the same in German as well?

Agreed, I've reported it.
