How well are you doing (lingots for new users)?

I found it useful to check my progress by taking the certificate test every five levels to see how I'm progressing, but I didn't do that in the beginning because lingots were scarce and I wasn't earning as many from levelling up as I am now. I wish I could have had a baseline to compare my later scores to, so I'm going to offer to help any new users out there have that opportunity.

If you are less than level five and you want to check your progress by taking the certificate test, do it now and post your results here with a link like this ( http://www.duolingo.com/certs/uxaPxk ). I will give you back a percentage of the lingots you spent equivalent to how well you did on the test.

Also, if you don't have enough lingots to buy the certificate test, let me know how many more you need. I'll give you the difference (but only you're less than level five).

(I don't really need lingots) I took the certificate just now, to see what it would say. And I basically failed it. I'm on level 8 in italian, and got 0.74/5.00 ( http://www.duolingo.com/certs/O4xhKY ) on the certificate... and trying to not be too upset with such a crappy result. It's like being in school all over again ;/

I have a weekly beginner Spanish meet-up at my house. We're all working with DuoLingo - levels 2 through 12. This week, we decided to take the certificate test together - all on my account. It was much more difficult than we expected. After the first few questions, it was all past and future tenses! We pooled our brains and voted/guessed on many of the answers. We fared far better than we expected: https://www.duolingo.com/certs/RRzWcC

Well, I am level 6 in Italian on my 3rd day of study.

https://www.duolingo.com/BugabooBear

Yeah I've noticed the levels seem to wrack up really fast in the beginning and then slow to a crawl as the lessons get harder and the amount of XP required to level up increases.

https://www.duolingo.com/856pm

I took the test (lv11 French) and scored 2.41/5 (which isn't that good, I suppose it's average)

Well, it was meant to be an incentive to newer users, but I guess I can afford to offer a few to those of higher levels too. If you're above level 5 you'll only get half. For you that's 48.2% / 2 = 24.1%. Out of 25 spent on the test, that comes to six lingots. Enjoy.

Didn't do well on my test, got about 20 percent of my answers correct because I was faced with words and grammar I haven't learned yet. I have been to busy the past few days to use duolingo much, but I plan to finish both my trees this next year and hopefully start the Russian course when it comes available. Thanks for the lingots, please let me know if you can spare anymore.

I don't need any lingots, but on your suggestion I took the test after a month of studying Italian a little every day but one. (Broke my streak that day too. So sad.) I made a 0.87/5.0 and I'm a level 8 so I think that's pretty standard? https://www.duolingo.com/certs/Q7tj0l

Honestly I do feel encouraged and on at least a few questions I was only missing a single word of vocabulary or two so I feel like I'm making real progress! So thank you for the suggestion! I'll start taking monthly tests and if I ever hit 5.0/5.0 that sucker's getting framed!

https://www.duolingo.com/BugabooBear

I just took my 2nd monthly Italian test and made 1.13/5.0! https://www.duolingo.com/certs/cDt9RH

I was very nervous because I've been slacking on my Italian studies this month and the lessons have gotten a lot harder but I studied really hard the last 2 days and I'm so pleased that I still showed improvement! I'll keep updating every month when I get new scores. (No lingots needed, just a kick in the rear.)

I can't believe you have to pay for the quiz each time! It seems kinda pointless considering a) it's a great judge of progress, as OP said, and b) getting ingots are easy if you simply repeat the initial easy ones with full hearts (it just takes time).

Anyway, first time, got 2.03/5, level 8, Spanish.

New to using the website so I didn't realize the quiz had to be bought each time (unlike the timed practice that is in the same section of the store). Wasted 25 lingots learning that lesson! ;)

Hi Revdolphin, I just started learning Italian (I'm on level three) and I came across a post about taking tests to track your progress. It led me to your post above, and I was wondering, where are the tests located? Under each group of skills, there's a button that says "test out of 6 (or however many are in that particular group) skills." Is this the test you're referring to? Or is there some sort of bigger, overall test? I apologize if I'm asking an incredibly obvious question, but I think the idea of using tests to track progress is fantastic!

I think I just gave you 10 lingots to help with this worthy endeavour. I came on here to find out what the test score means? Any idea what the score relates to? I am on a 410 day streak (that earns a good few lingots every 10 days) so I've been working on it for a while and just took my first test. 4.87/5.0 is quite good then? But I'd still like to know if it means anything to anyone outside of duolingo?
