My streak freeze did not work
My streak freeze did not work either. Bought it and assumed I can go sleep off my Migrane and today I see day 1 .... Not sure why it didn't work.... I have Mack book pro laptop 10.4 (I think) the latest osx software up to date. Brouwer is safari.
Thanks .... It took me a while before I found the link. Wow, your FAQ site is very informative! But sadly it just tells me what I guessed so far... That once purchased it should have kicked in automatically when I missed a day.... Which it didn't. I still see it purchased, unused and my streak broken. Not happy about it...
Ps any idea why only the ummmm "gems" show up in my iPad duolingo store, but none of the other items, including the freeze streak? And why does the web not show the coach I do have on my iPad? Your forum did not have any info on that.... Thanks for your thoughts...
Thank you ^_^ I've put a lot of work into it. But, it's always getting updated when I have new information. It won't be a comprehensive FAQ, it just covers what comes up the most often.
I don't use the apps, so I don't know much about them.
What I do know that:
their designs differ from each other and from the website.
The website does not have a coach. It has a graph that will show your current progress compared to how you did on other days in the week, and it will tell you how many points you've earned on the current day (this is the beta layout). The layout that 90% have will show a stack of coins on the homepage (I miss the coin stack). You might need to click a tab to see the coin stacks. (Sorry that is vague, I only have access to the beta layout view now. But, they are somewhere on the homepage!)
In the past people were complaining that the apps and the website different on what number they showed on the streaks. That might have been a bug, it might or might not have been fixed by now, it might have been a difference between one showing Total streak and the other showing Individual streak. (I've only caught snippets in the Discussion forum but it was quite a while a go.)
The gems are called Lingots.
I'm sorry I don't have more information for you, aside from suggesting you contact support in the white tab to the left and let them know what happened with your streak. It could take a while for them to get back to you. So, if you have continued to sign on and gain points each day, don't stop doing that or it won't matter because you will have lost your streak in a way that is not due to time zones or a glitch and they would have no need to investigate further.
NOTE: If anyone wants to create a well organized guide (Table of contents with number references, logical progression, bold headings, the more visuals the better etc.) to the differences between the various apps and the website, I will link it in the Guide to Duolingo Guides. However, you'll need to update it when the Apps are updated.

I had the exact same experience, I missed logging in only for a day and had purchased a streak freeze but it didn't kick in and now I have 0 day streak. :(
Same ; I have 550 day streak ; the freeze was Purchased and it did not work to save my streak when I was out of cell and wifi range ( camping) so I lost it . I was so upset and it has affected motivation since .... not doing it much anymore.
My streak Freeze did not work as well. I'm pretty sure I missed the previous day, but it had been a while since I missed a day and always keep a Streak Freeze equipped. Does not look like a way to challenge this, very discouraging when a bug like this ruins a daily motivation.
Since I lost mine , daily motivation is gone ; no more hype, no more people acting what I am doing ; no more edifing Duolingo . I believe the loss of the streak was corporate motivated as I got a message to pay for the app then I would get to save my streak . Yes I believe those that can pay should be taking the streak away to push people to pay is not in sink with the motivation of the creator of this app. His story is on the podcast. So I guess it has tanted my perception and loyalty to this program ; thus my motivation for duolingo died and Spanish unfortunately. I hope to get it back as I enjoyed it a lot .
Craig, I'm not sure how much you know about how Streak Freezes work, so I'm just going to cover as much as I can. Sorry if some of this is redundant.
Streak Freezes can only be used once and then a person needs to replace them. In order not to lose a streak, a person needs to meet their daily goal, which people set with Coach. In order to register experience points (XP) gained with the Coach, a person's device needs to link up with Duolingo's servers. An even noticeable cut out of internet connection and cell-service can interrupt the data transfer, causing a failure to link with the server. Most often, this blip happens with the apps, rather than the desktop version. This is considered a user-side error because it is not something controlled on Duolingo's side, but rather is connected to the person's Internet Service Provider (ISP). The XP will eventually register, but sometimes not before the 24 hour Streak cycle has ended.
The Streak Freeze will activate once a person's device has not registered a met goal with the Coach at the end of their 24 hour Streak Cycle. Then, it needs to be replaced by going to the Lingot Shop and using lingots to get another one before another 24 hour Streak Cycle passes without meeting a Coach goal.
A while back, I created a discussion called Checked your Streak Freeze today?. Because ISP's can fail to contact Duolingo's servers to register XP with the Coach, it's a good idea for users to regularly check if their Streak Freeze is still equipped. That discussion also has other useful information so I highly recommend checking it out.
I checked your userdata from when you first reported you Streak Freeze failing last month. On multiple occasions, your account does not show you meeting your Coach goal of 30XP. It does not show XP showing up late either. I will send you a link to the screenshot I took of that so you can see for yourself what I'm talking about.

The streak freeze lasts for 24 hours.
(I believe that is from midnight one day to midnight the next day. The time is calculated based on the computer you created your account with. If you move to a new time zone, the old time zone still counts.)
If you feel that there has been an error and the streak freeze has not performed as it was programmed to, please move this over to the Troubleshooting forum. You can do that by following these steps:
edit post. please add your operating system and browser (for example, mine is Windows 7/Firefox)
click "duolingo" at the top of your editing window. it is a drop down menu.
select "troubleshooting" from the menu.
To find the troubleshooting forum in the future, please go to the main Discussion page and look to your right. Depending on what layout you have, you will see it there directly to the right, or you will need to scroll down until you see the link next to the miniature flags on the right side.
