is dame the same as femme?

https://www.duolingo.com/AllenGueco

Fun Fact!: "madam" came from the French "ma dame", which means my lady. So I guess dame means lady

Why cant you drop the 'e' in Je suis, to J'suis? I thought you could drop a letter so long as it was the 'e'?

I think you can only do that if it is a vowel or silent start to the verb (e.g. J' habite- pronounced JABEET). 'Je suis' has two parts to it where the silent starting verbs can merge into each other, hence the dropped 'e'.

No, "une femme, un homme" is "eine Frau, ein Mann" and "A woman, a man" Check the new Tips & Notes at the top of the lesson page and the new "Overview of French grammar and vocabulary explanations... " Discussions page.

Why can't i put "la"

https://www.duolingo.com/Gingy72

La or le means "the", while un or une means "a" or "an". Saying "the woman" is entirely different from saying "a woman"

un is used for masculine nouns, while une is used for femenine ones.

Why can't we use Je suis la femme?

https://www.duolingo.com/Ursipie

Because "la" is the and "une" is a.
