This could also be "The horses (each) eat an apple." So each horse gets its own apple. See, things might not be so tough in the Latino/Spanish world after all.

Yeah, when I read the sentence. I thought this doesn't make any sense. But is not about making sense is about getting a right translation. And I got it right.
