Not es un adverbio y modifica un verbo o un adjectivo.
Not is an adverb and it modifies an verb or an adjective.

  • Do not run.
  • He did not say.
  • The glass is not full.

No es un adjectivo y modifica un sustantivo.
No is an adjective and it modifies a noun.

  • There are no cats here.
  • I have no money.

Como dice Lrtward en otras palabras. "No" se utiliza para inexistencia, para expresar que no hay, There is no money= No hay dinero. "Not" se utiliza para indicar que el verbo no se hizo o no se hace, I do not run= Yo no corro.

No is afirmative and not is negative

Au contraire, certainly not, impossible, far from it, in the negative, not so. Nullify, abolish, annihilate, annul, blow sky-high, bring to naught, cancel out, counter, cut, decline, deflate, deny, kill, negate, nix, reject, undo, void, withhold that thought. I disaffirm, disagree, disallow, disconfirm, hold out against, impugn, veto, oppose, rule against and refuse this idea. I don't buy it. I won't hear of it. I shake my head and hold my thumbs down and vote nay.

No, it is a cat white. It is not white
