How to change my level
I am operating at level 9 but feel this is too advanced for me - how do I go back to a lower level please?
Your level is based on how many XP (experience points) you have earned. It doesn't really have anything to do with how easy or hard the lessons are. For example, you could repeat "Basics 1" over and over until you got to level 9.
If you are feeling like things are getting too advanced, that's a sign that you need to take a break from doing new lessons and spend some time reviewing. There are two ways to do this:
- Go to the home page, pick a skill set, and redo the lessons in that skill set or review the whole skill set.
- Go to the home page and click "Strengthen Skills". Duo will pick which skills it thinks you need to practice.
Your profile says you are at level 7 in German, with 978 XP earned. It says that you will reach level 8 after you earn 147 more XP.
What makes you think you are stuck at level 4? What are you seeing that makes you think that? Maybe you have some other issue we can help with.
Hi! I have a doubt and was hoping perhaps you could guide me. It's been a while since I got to level 14 in French and no matter how much time I spend at exceeding new lessons and reviewing old ones, I still have the same level and also the same fluency percentage (56%). It's very demotivating... I study German at the same time but it runs well.
Hi, sadly I don't think I can help but it doesn't sound right! However I am on level 9 with 63% fluency so that seems odd in itself. Did you get to level 14 by starting at level 1 or by doing the introductory test? My problem is that the introductory test was obviously a bit of a fluke and it put me at too high a level which I know is wrong for me so I have the opposite problem. It seems a shame one can't just change one's level!
Hi! The same problem is with my French. I do not understand how level is calculated. I have earned 1,000 XPs, but I am still at the same level. It would be useful to know how many XPs you have to earn to go from level to level. It appears the higher level is the more XPs you need to earn in comparison with the previous one.
I have a new iPad and when I opened my duolingo Plus app it set me back to elementary when I’ve completed entire English/Italian course and reversed language Italian to English to continue learning. What to do?
