I watch Clara Henry youtube videos in a feeble attempt to expose myself to conversational Swedish without actually being surrounded by Swedes in San Francisco:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1C_73kLwOI

At 1:20 in the above video I hear this... please correct my transcription:

  • Den här fick jag i Kungsbacka, och det var en tjej som ba’: ”Du måste öppna den här i en video”, och jag ba’: ”Jag har aldrig öppnat paket i en video”, så vi får se…let’s see about that.

Anyway, aside from me still not understanding what Swedes say when they mutter or speak too quickly, what is "ba"? Is she saying "bara"? "Bad"? Unlocking the key to saying "and then I was likeeee" would more or less make me feel fluent in this language, lol.

Also I noticed that she says "undrar om det är ett brev med det här" (if that's indeed what she said) without saying "jag". I already do this in writing but didn't know it extended to speech. Neat.

It’s a shortened form of bara (only) which is used in young people’s colloquial language to introduce direct speech. It’s similar to English be like. So you say e.g. det var en tjej som ba’ : ”-quote-”, och jag ba’: ”-quote 2-” (there was a girl who was like: ”-quote-”, and I was like: ”-quote 2-”).

Well I'm glad I learned this before attempting to say something like "och jag var liksom" or "och jag var typ"

Or is that used also?

You could say: och jag typ: but but not with var. The most common particle is ba’ I daresay. You can also combine them: och jag typ ba’: (and I was sorta like:).

You’re almost entirely right in your transcription:

Den här fick jag i Kungsbacka, och det var en tjej som ba’: ”Du måste öppna den här i en video”, och jag ba’: ”Jag har aldrig öppnat paket i en video”, så vi får se…let’s see about that.

For your last question: yes. It's fairly common to drop "jag" in simple sentences where it's quite obvious anyways.
