I noticed the official Duolingo course on Memrise isn't very long so I have started to make a more complete one. It's not brilliant as I haven't spent very long on it but I'll work on it at some point.

Great idea :D You can always strengthen skill as well in Duolingo :D I'm sure (www.duolingo.com/rmcode)[rmcode] would be interested in this - he put the very first draft of the Duolingo course onto Memrise.

Of course, I find using both much more helpful than either of the two on their own. The little photos people put on Memrise can be quite helpful for memorising words.

On a side note, you need to put "[rmcode]" before the address :)

:D Thanks - I still can't get the hang of this markdown coding! Hahaha.

It didn't occur to me to ask before, as a course contributor do you have access to a list of all the words in the course? If so may I have a copy? I've noticed some words aren't listed in skill pages and going through 1000 lessons to find words would be quite tedious. If there is no such list or that's against duolingo policy I wont cry:)

The best thing about Memrise is that you can "ignore" words you don't want to appear in lessons.

Btw, where is the "official" Duolingo course you're talking about?

It's only "official" in the sense that it was made by a Duolingo-course contributor. http://www.memrise.com/course/741040/welsh-course-on-duolingo/

Ah, thanks. I just checked out your course and it's great! I've just finished the tree, so if you want i can start making lists of the words in the later lessons and give them to you, maybe it'd be easier to add new skills that way? Are you just taking the words from the list of words in each level?

This might be just what i need to help cement the vocab which seems to slip away from me pretty quickly. Thanks for putting this all together, i hope you continue to work on it!

That is exactly what I have been doing, with ocassional extra bits from the tips and notes. If you're willing to make a list that would be great, it doesn't take very long to fill the levels once I have the words and their translations but I've reached the extent of my knowledge.

I find Memrise is really good for that, I hope you find it as helpful :) I'll need to keep working on it because otherwise I might have to use physical flashcards again... I always lose them.

I just did the next three: Reflexive pronouns, Must & Must Not, and Order. Here's the link. It's divided into four (tab-separated) columns, the first column is the welsh phrase, the second column is the English translation, the third column is the original word (many words like feddwl are mutated, feddwl is the soft mutation of meddwl), and the fourth column was to mark a phrase that had two versions, one with a mutated form (i fi) and one without (i mi). I'm not sure exactly how you're organizing the course, i feel like i saw you weren't adding phrases in (which i think is good, i'd rather stick to basic vocabulary). Copy/paste that into a spreadsheet and it should be clearer. Let me know how you'd like it formatted and i can add some more.

Btw, how are you pulling the translations? Are you pulling the translations from the actual Duolingo course? Or using an online dictionary?

Thanks, I'll add them soon. I haven't thought of a good way to deal with mutations yet. I might featute them as separate words if that helps me/others to learn to recognise them as the same word or make an extra lesson or just ignore them completely, I'm not sure. I intended for it to be just for vocab originally although I've added most short phrases that are in Duolingo's list.

Those that I wasn't sure of I got from one of two on-line dictionaries or by doing the Duolingo lesson to find the hint. Some are also in the Memrise system so it can add the translations, but they're usually set up in an odd way when I do that.

Honestly i don't think it's necessary to add the mutations, especially as the mutated forms are sometimes the same as another word stem. Today i saw that many of the words actually show you the mutated forms as you study them, the mutations are predictable so i think that should be enough. I wasn't sure if you had done that or if it was already in the system. It's the first time i've seen a course do that, i'm going to have to update some of my older courses to do that :)

I agree. I added the lists of mutated forms to most words (often regardless of whether they could actually occur or not which may or may not have been a good idea) as a reminder. I assume that means they're in the system now though if anyone else wants to do the same. There are some words in the course taught in their mutated form but I'll probably remove those as they could be confusing.

The only problem now is having to change everything when they update the tree...

If they change the tree i wouldn't worry so much about it, just having this original tree entered is already a huge task and an enormous help. If you're still working with the course when they change the tree and you think it'd help you study, then by all means go for it, otherwise i think you've already done us all a grand service by putting this together.

For words taught in their mutated form, we could just add non-mutated form instead.
