Dear German learners,
Like many of you, I have been learning German for sometime here on Duolingo. As I was working through the German tree, I wished there was more reading material, perhaps a nice, fun story, that was aimed at my level of German comprehension and vocabulary. But the ones I found were either too simplistic or too advanced or uninteresting.
It is also the case (to my knowledge) that many of the bi-lingual books provide a page in each language, or a line-by-line translation. I wanted reading that could provide immersion and slowly ramp up into the foreign language as well, with a balance between comprehension and challenge. Being able to read and understand an entire story would hugely boost my confidence and motivate me to learn even more. Simply put, I wanted a story that beginners, like myself, who are learning German would read and enjoy reading.
So I (Venson) decided to co-author one with the help of a native German (Strohner, who is person243 here), and we are proud to share it with you today. We hope that you enjoy the story as well as the unique format. Personally, I think the book makes an excellent companion to the Duolingo German course, but I may be biased in that opinion. :) Of special interest to me is whether people like the format of my book, so share your thoughts on this specifically if you please.
We are offering the book for free on Amazon (US, UK, DE, IN and many other countries) for the next two days (on 2nd and 3rd of March, 2016). It will also be available for just $0.99 regularly after that, but prices may differ depending on country. So please download from the link above and check it out. You can tell us what you think (love it, hate it, blah, anything constructive!) here in the comments or on Amazon.
We would really love to hear from you. Thanks for reading.
I wish you much luck with that. Tell us if you liked the story and whether you think it would have helped you, if you had it earlier or if it is still helpful after completing the A level.
Viel Glück dabei. Bitte sag uns, ob dir die Geschichte gefiel und ob sie dir vor oder nach der Prüfung geholfen hätte beziehungsweise hat.
I read it and it was very good, thank you. One irregularity I noticed was that you called the family Weiß except once where you called them Weiss.
