Is 'Sin ieri' not correct?

I think it must always have "da". Either "da ieri" or "sin da ieri" (or even "fin da ieri")

Sin da ieri also works!!

Can anyone expand on this? Thought "sin" was "since" - is adding the "da" ALWAYS required? Does it refer only to matter related to time?
