The link below is to a PDF of Field Manual 30-101A, which outlined the language used by the fictional field-exercise enemy known as Aggressor. Besides the irony that is embedded in this (Esperanto was made as a language to foster peace and cooperation, but the US Armed Forces used it for the exact opposite), this could be a helpful guide to basic Esperanto for komencantoj.

Having served in the military, I can speak from a little experience. Now this is all my supposition as I don't actually KNOW anything. But it's likely the only reason they did it was because it sounds foreign while remaining neutral, you can't pin down a nation to it. You could say there was a real fear of subconsciously implanting a hatred for whatever nations natural language literature they chose so they went with something not associated with a nation. Sure they could've made the OpFor literature all in Arabic but we weren't ever just at war with middle eastern countries. :P Just my two cents anyway.

No, that's totally valid. They chose the language because it was politically neutral but extremely easy to learn. That doesn't mean it isn't ironic. XD

I read your article on the linked blog. That video was truly surreal! Would Zamenhof be turning in his grave or would it amuse him?
