Suggestion: Stackable Streak Freezes

Hello all,

I have a minor suggestion regarding Duolingo's streak freeze item, and it is quite simple: allow us to stack multiple copies of streak freeze from the store. Although detrimental to the puposes that Duolingo wishes to serve; the implementation of this suggestion will permit people going on lengthier vacations more lenience as to whether or not they wish to completely forget about the site (it is a vacation after all). If multliple days skipped is seen as undesirable, make subsequent stacks of the streak freeze exponentially more expensive.

Let me know what you guys think!

This is a good idea, but the price of it should exponetially grow so it would be extremely expensive to go over a week or two.

Why not just create a vacation freeze? Don't bother with the stacking concept.

I agree completely; I don't value my streak much since I know I'll be going on vacation in a few months without internet for a few days.

Agreed, I can't count the amount of times I have lost my streak because of not having internet where a was for a few days :)

C'mon, what's the point of having a day streak at all if people could just buy long pauses for themselves? Who would still have any pride in a streak if it was maintained that way?

Let's say that you're learning Spanish, and you have a nice 100 day streak. Now you go for a one week holiday in Spain, speaking only Spanish the entire time, but you didn't pay the extra money to have internet in your hotel or to get a roaming plan on your phone, so you can't log into Duolingo. Let's also say that you're in a somewhat rural area of Spain, so there aren't any Internet Cafes or anything like that around. If you consider the streak to be a measure that you were practising the language every day for that long, then it definitely should still be going up as you spend all day speaking in Spanish to the natives. On the other hand, nowadays it seems very unlikely that you would be unable to access the internet for 10 minutes or so a day, so if your streak really matters to you then find an internet cafe, or go to a hotel with internet, or visit a friend with internet, or get an internet stick. Even going to a McDonald's should get you free WiFi, so if you care about your streak then there shouldn't be an excuse, and if you don't care about your streak then why are you bothering to preserve it?

I'm going to Mexico in July for at least three weeks, possibly the whole month, and I don't know if I'll have access to Internet. I'll be disappointed about losing my streak, but the more important thing is that I intend to be fluent by the time I return. I like the idea of purchasing an extended streak freeze for an exponentially increasing price, but I am under no illusions that I would be able to afford such a price for the full month that I will be gone.

There are situations where access to the internet isn't available. It isn't everywhere - to use your example of McDonalds, even they haven't completely colonised the planet yet - and what about periods of illness or even hospitalisation where you aren't capable of doing lessons? Your streak will vanish through no fault of your own. I'd like to have the option of buying some freezes and keeping them for these situations. It actually means I do care about my streak, not the reverse. (I'm mourning the loss of it at the moment because I thought I had a streak freeze in place for Christmas and apparently didn't.)

Well, this is a reason to not get too attached with the streak...I lost mine for going to a trip for a few days, and will probably go again in a few weeks, where I don't have a computer with me...if I put some special effort to get to Internet I might find one but honestly, it's not like someone is dying.

So stacking would be nice but if not, no biggie, it just means that the streak is a meaningless feature for me.
