vocabulary improvement suggestion

The vocabulary for many languages should include the gender, probably as an article, so that they are associated together.

Up at the top of the DuoLingo, there is a tab for Vocabulary. You will find a list of all the words you have already come across during lessons. It shows what skill you learned it from and allows you to practice that skill. You can also practice your weakest words. When you put your cursor over the word in black, a list of meanings show. When you click on the word in blue, words are used in all the forms you have seen in example sentences with their articles. Verbs are listed in a conjugation table if you scroll down. Nouns have gender listed. You can open a second window of duoLingo with vocabulary opened to refer to. The vocabulary can be sorted alphabetically by word by clicking on that heading or by strength of, or by when last practiced. (Yes, DuoLingo notices if you are making mistakes with a particular word and whether it has been used enough to remember and adjusts its strength .) You can even search for a particular word that you have encountered and see it in all the forms you have learned with examples and then practice just that word in all its forms that you have encountered so far.

The vocabulary tab would be what I suggest too. Unfortunately, 10% of Duolingo does not have the Vocabulary tab at this time, because we are part of a test group for a potential new layout.

User arekolek (www.duolingo.com/arekolek) has advertized on their profile that they were able to export all of the vocabulary. They might be able to give you tips if you don't have a download tab. However, I can't vouch for the authenticity of their claim so it is a do at your own risk situation.

I hope DL brings the vocabulary tab back soon. Good luck!

PS Duolingo staff and designers keep really busy. The reason that any particular thing hasn't been implemented could be that it is further back in the que of things to be implimented, it clashed with goal they have, or they are still gauging interest. The gender thing is very important. There have been a couple of test groups for it as well. So, I imagine that we are heading towards something along those lines. :)

Yes indeed, I recall tatou(a staff member) indicated that the staff were planning to revamp the vocabulary section, and improve some aspects of it, so this is probably the reason for the delay. However, I'm not sure whether it is related to this gender suggestion or not.

Anyway, that is a very interesting way to export the vocabulary. It gives me an idea to use in an app I developed previously. :)
