Two Major Italian Achievements in One Day!
Hello everyone :) last month I finished my tree (after so many times stopping and starting again), and today I was very pleased with myself and my improvements in Italian- so I must share!
First, I'm traveling to Italy this summer and my mom insisted I find out whether or not the hotel we're supposed to stay at is non-smoking or not. So, I called the hotel, which is in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere (where they speak a very interesting dialect which I managed to understand a little of when I was there last), and actually was able to speak to the concierge in Italian without making many mistakes! Aside from the international phone number, I don't think he would've realized I was American.
Second, I took one of those progress quizzes they have here on duolingo, and I got 5.0/5.0!!! I'm so proud! Just last year (exactly 12 months ago, it says), I got only 2.6 out of 5!
So thank you, duolingo :) you've done such a wonderful thing for my by helping me achieve my goals of Italian fluency.
Update: I went to an opera and then after I went to the stage door and met my favorite (Italian) singer and spoke with him and I'm so proud! Wooooo Italian!!!
Congratulations! Thank you for sharing this you have no idea how inspirational and motivating your experiences are. I wish you luck in your increasing fluency in italian and your burgeoning german!
You should be beaming so much that I need sunglasses to go out at night. I would be tickled to get where you are at now. Fabulous!
Isn't it great to look back and see how much you've learned? Congrats on all your hard work, and your level of proficiency! Happy for you!
My grandfather speaks Italian so I try and practice with him, also I take it in school (but never learn anything). I like listening to Italian radio (RTL 105.2!) and movies too sometimes.
