Oui, it was a magnifique experience, really :)

I loved the movie in Hungarian, it's one of my favourite French movies (and I love French movies, parce qu'ils sont excellentes!).

Yesterday I found a (Hungarian) blog about the film where someone commented that it's a lot funnier in the original French version.

Not so long ago I watched Ratatouille, one of my favourite Pixar movies, in French and I was very content, it was a lot better than the Hungarian one. So I felt obliged to watch this one in French too! And I didn't regret it for sure!

I used subtitles, of course. It was rather challenging though, as the subtitles were pretty different from the one they said. So I had to understand both the voice AND the text. (If I had watched it in Italian for instance, I wouldn't have used subtitles, as Italian is a rather easy-to-understand language. French, however, is not.)

I never learned French outside of Duolingo. Unlike for Italian or Japanese, I've never bought a grammar book for my French learning, and never even wanted to learn French very seriously.

Actually, the reason of my French learning is an interesting and a rather unique one I suppose: I registered here to learn Italian, but I accidentally clicked on French in the dropdown menu, next to the "Home" button above! I panicked as I didn't know how to delete back then and I thought it would look awful to have a lvl 10 Italian and a lvl 1 French. So I started to learn French for fun, and quickly made progress. When I found the options menu where you can delete languages, it was too late :) I didn't want to delete French, and I think I didn't regret it...

Alors, Duolingo, merci beaucoup! :) Vous m'avez fait très heureux aujourd'hui, à nouveau!

You're welcome, this film is a MUST, especially for an advanced French learner like you (and unlike me) ;)

Haha, thank you, but I'll probably use subtitles. French is a ridiculously difficult language to listen to, a lot of the words sound similar. Practice makes perfect though, thanks again for the film suggestion!

Good job! Les Visiteurs has a special place in my heart, I first saw it in primary school, I'm glad you got to enjoy it in French. Maybe in a little while you'll be able to watch it again without any subtitles!

Oh I certainly hope so! French is very difficult to understand (without subtitles of course), so it was a great challenge but still very entertaining. The movie is a true masterpiece! It also helped a lot that I almost know every line of the film in Hungarian, so I could compare and learn when I didn't understand something.

Well, I had Les Visiteurs 1 on DVD, and French was an available language there (so was with Ratatouille). For Les Visiteurs 2, well I'm not proud of it, but I downloaded it from a French torrent site. Unfortunately, I have that film only on an old VHS cassette and only in Hungarian... It wasn't available on YouTube, but to tell you the truth I didn't even really searched for it. Perhaps you could give it a try. As for the subtitles, I found websites where you can download subtitles for free. They weren't perfect, often largely different from spoken parts, so often misleading, but still it was worth it :)
