If it is not clear from the context which is meant, people will sometimes use rhoi benthyg for 'lending':

  • Gwnes i roi benthyg pum punt iddo fe - I lent him five pounds

Also, the preposition that follows can distinguish between them:

  • Rwy'n benthyg pum punt iddo fe - I am lending him five pounds
  • Rwy'n benthyg pum punt ganddo fe - I am borrowing five pounds from him
