Welsh For Beginners Places Section
Does anyone know the point of the places section in the welsh course? All the vocabulary seems to be the names of obscure towns.
If you never plan to go to Wales then there is very little purpose to the skill, but in that case there is very little purpose to learning Welsh apart from the interest/challenge.
However the Welsh people are very nationalistic and use Welsh placenames in speech and they are also in first place on all ((dual language) road signs, so for visitors to Wales it could be useful.
'' All the vocabulary seems to be the names of obscure towns.'' examples please.
I mean, Pwllheli, Avergavenny and Newtown aren't the most significant of towns in the world... (one of those I'd barely even heard of, despite living in Wales!)
As a resident of one of those I should probably feel offended! We even had our own massacre as recently as 1175.
I mean, those towns are all definitely more significant than the size suggests, to be fair; my town is far bigger and I doubt you'd have heard of it at all. But significance on a Welsh level is different to significance on a global level too :)
