Hello, I've recently started using Duolingo with my classes. For one pupil, their activity log shows the timestamp and no of XP points as normal, but under Skill it just shows the character - . It does not mention the actual skill they are learning. This is only the case with one student, all others give the name of the actual skill (e.g. 'common phrases' etc.) I'm wondering what the reason for this? (Is it possible the pupil is using some method of cheating and not really completing activities?).

Many thanks.

Hi there! If no skill is given, but the activity log indicates that the lesson is "Practice", that means the student practiced their weakest skills by clicking the "Strengthen skills" button: screenshot of strengthen skills button

If that is the case, no need to worry! :) The "strengthen skills" lesson is tailored to students' individual strengths and weaknesses and is generated to maximize exposure to words and concepts your students need to practice.

Hi thanks very much for that reply. The activity log doesn't say 'practice' however. Under Skill, just character - is listed, and under lesson, it says 1/3, 2/4 etc. So it looks like the student is doing lessons, but it doesn't say what lessons/skills. Also the number of XP points gained for each lesson is showing as different for each lesson, sometimes it's 10/11/12/13/14. This seems unusual, as for all my other students it's showing as 10 for each lesson.

Hmm, in that case we will have to take a closer look. Would you mind sending an email to teachers@duolingo.com with the username of the student and the name of the classroom this is happening in, and refer to this forum thread? This will help us figure out what is going on. Thank you!
