In german, Easter is Ostern, egg is Ei.
If I hope someone has a good Easter, why is it "Ich hoffe, du hast ein gutes Ostern." instead of "ich hoffe, du hast eine gute Ostern"? I looked up "the Easter" and it was a female word. Why was It corrected that way? I know people say Frohe Ostern but still...
Es ist "das Ostern". http://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/Ostern
I don't know where you looked that up, but Ostern is neuter. I think it is shortened from: Das Osterfest, but that is only speculation. You say: Frohe Ostern, but there you mean the plural I think or it is just a phrase. Mostly you use it without any article and in plural. But for example: Wir hatten ein schönes Ostern/Osterfest dieses Jahr. Is also possible.
I hope I could be of help.
