[To the Duolingo Team] Priority List
I really hope you will implement this idea, because I think it would save a lot of people from cluttering up the discussions asking for new features.
Write your top 10 or 20 priorities somewhere permanent in the discussion section or at the top where the tabs are. This would stop people from posting things like these:
Note: I have nothing against any of the discussions above, I think they are good ideas, but I think you have enough on your hands, and are satisfied with the current language learning model.
So if you would add a place where people could see your priorities, and see that you are not very much interested in changing the learning interface at this point (because you already have a full plate), I believe it would be very helpful.
P.S. If you like this idea please vote it up so more people can see it. Thanks!
This is a great idea but there could be problems. What if the team cannot expose their todos? What if they don't have the time to tell us their todo list? This may be the reason they don't post them in the first place. Once posted they feel obligated to answer all the feedback from the user base. Look at Luis he comments on a near daily basis, what other CEO is that involved in their user base personally? Same with all the other staff and I mean every day! Just my thoughts.
Why would the team not be able to expose their to-dos? I believe this would save time in the long run, because if they just write down their priorities, then there won't be so many comments about adding new features all the time, so less things to answer for them. You say "once posted". What do you mean by once posted? Do you mean that if the priority list would be posted than they would be obligated to answer all the feedback? Or that they now feel obligated to answer all the feedback and that makes Luis and the team more involved and that's a good thing? Thanks for offering another side of the coin, though :)
They feel obligated to answer. Yes that would make the team more involved down here in the forums. What I am wondering is if that is the best use of their time.
I think it is a good use of their time, since it would probably save more time in the long run. But I'm hoping one of them comments here about whether it would be good or not. :)
I don't think that will save Duolingo staff any time. And their to-do's probably change on a regular basis. If they publish them, they may be setting up expectations that they might not be able to keep. It also potentially reveals things to competitors that they don't want them to know about.
So people wouldn't always make suggestions all the time about what new changes there should be.
I have an addon i would like to have:
Practice certain words or vocabulary using only 1 method,
for instance, to use the method of seeing a pic and writing the answer with the gender, to practice gender.
or only translating into the language you are learning, I seem to be bad at translating into german, but great the other way around.
another thing I would like,
in the language learning page, have a tab to switch between grammar, and vocabulary.
When i did the household lesson for example, I learned like 20-50 words, but there are SO MANY more words to be learned! and there is really no point in mixing vocabulary and grammar lessons, as if they are of equal value.
Usagiboy7 can sing a song about some discussions being started again and again...
Heck yeah!! My first solo!! xD
♪On the first day of Christmas....
And on the second day of Christmas..
Then again on the third day of Christmas...
And also on the fourth day of Christmas...
The expanded lyrics look something like all this http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1426103
The good news is, I enjoy singing ^_~
