Tomorrow is Easter, many People in Poland celebrate.
Wesołych Świąt - happy Holidays is what you say to Polish people to say Happy Easter.
Easter is Wielkanoc (literally Great Night).
You all already know that eggs=jajka
but painted eggs = pisanki
and the Easter Monday is "Lany Poniedziałek "/ "Śmigus-Dyngus" (Wet Monday)
Wesołych, spokojnych Świąt Wam wszystkim! Smacznego jajka i mokrego Dyngusa! :D
Thank you for this explanation! I spent Easter 1988 in Poland during a school exchange and enjoyed it very much.
is Wesołych Świąt for Easter only, or any holiday? also, is the Easter Monday an offiical holiday in Poland?
It's for any holiday, but most used for Easter and Christmas.
The long version is "Wesołych Świąt Wielkanocnych". (Easter only)
Yes Easter Monday is official holiday in Poland. It's even one of few days when shops have to be closed.
Uniquely for Easter, we also have a colloquial (and sometimes a bit humorous) "Wesołego/smacznego jajka!". You can feel free to use it almost in any situation especially for posts on the internet.
