Ladies and gentleman,

today the user johnarnold (http://www.duolingo.com/johnarnold) accomplished a full 365 day streak on Duolingo! Well, I don't know exactly whether he is really the first one, but have you seen somebody else who did it?

This shows real passion, commitment and love! I'd like to encourage the Duolingo staff to create a special gift or something like that for this user, because he uses your services longer than anybody else did.

I do not know johnarnold, but I raise my hat and lift a glass to him! And: Who will be the next? ;-)

So, congrats and my deepest admiration goes to johnarnold! Keep on doing great!

366 days, high levels in each language and haven't completed a course? I'm only level 11 and and am practically done with the German tree

Translation is lots of fun, you get lots of points, and you get to read some pretty interesting articles! The skill trees are good for instant feedback, but I can see why someone might switch over to doing mostly translations even before finishing a tree.

Are we worried about the commitment or the perceived ability? This isn't about who is better than who, it's about the journey and it seems to me he's on a wonderful journey. Congratulations johnarnold. You're awesome!

That is my big goal for a full year streak. I feel like I am getting close to it but have to keep going. But as I have started learning my second language with Duo (Italian first and now Spanish) for my newly planned trip to Barcelona, I don't think motivation to keep it up will be a problem :)

Congrats johnarnold!

S7D: Just nonsense. AlmogL: Right. And for streak longer than one year we also have to calculate an inflation of 2% for European and 6% for Latin American Spanish.

I agree with the comment made by colonelsteiger. I think it's good that the Duolingo levels reflect commitment rather than proficiency. People progress at different rates - depending on their ability and previous knowledge.

No matter what the scale is supposed to reflect, DL need more levels. If I never worked on another sentence or I worked on 100,000 more sentences I will remain at the same level of commitment in two languages already.

Ok, interesting reactions to this accomplishment. I guess it shows a lot of consistency, engagement, and self-motivation. On the other side, I would prefer to learn only one language as best I can, and then move one to another one.

Exactly! Make what you want, your way, your pace. For me, learning multiple languages at once clarifies things that I would never have noticed ....and at other times it seems as stupid I thought it would be. I just started with one, saw other people doing 2-5 languages and thought, "if they can do it, I can try it ."

I have only tried Italian for 120 days, so I have not gotten very far. I expect my journey, at my pace, will be 18 months before I am satisfied. Without DL, it would never have happen.

Ah, sounds nice. I am still in school but going to junior 2 years college from next year. By the end of that I'll be speaking Italian as fluently as the next uomo!
