The amazing Hungarian Incubator team just finished building the course to learn English From Hungarian! Martin Blazsek (Nitram15), Ádám Szegi (Adam1978), Mátyás Makay (Abenhakan), and András Szesztai (szeandr) did an incredible job, so you should join me in congratulating them :)

Hungarian is quite a unique language (see http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1436951), and is very different from English, so we're thrilled that it only took them 54 days.

As with all beta courses, a few issues will likely have to be ironed out over the next few weeks, so we hope to get your help doing so!

https://www.duolingo.com/Zach1337

It's part of the code to embed pictures into the forums.

! [Alt text] (Image link goes here)

Also, there is no space between the ] and ( nor the ! and [

To post pictures, you type an exclamation mark ! and then in square brackets [[]] just type some random stuff. Then in normal brackets (()) just paste the image url.

I see, I thought he was confused about what [alt text] is when you're posting images.

He isn't wondering how to embed images, he is wondering why he can't see them. I have no clue though.:(

@S7D it's the link of your picture. If you post your screenshot anywhere online you can right-click it and click "COPY IMAGE URL". This also works with any picture on the internet.

Good news, though I expected French for Spanish, and Hungarian to be released simultaneously. Anyway, I think that the staff really needs to rethink that drop-down menu to select a language, it doesn't seem scaleable, has too much repetition, and isn't even searchable.

With the many languages that will appear it will be hard to look for anything there, especially for new users.

In any event, well done, Hungarian team!

Edit: corrected small mistake, thanks s7d

Honestly I was hoping they could just add it to the main drop-down menu next to the "Home" button. Add a second background flag to indicate the base language and let you switch just from there to whatever trees you have.

That's a good question. I assume not too many since, unfortunately, it is not widely used and not similar to any other language out there, making it 2nd (?) hardest language to master. I do, however, have a personal interest due to my family background and hoping that there will be enough people out there to accomplish the task.

it wasn't google translate :( It was me!! :D I know some basic words O:) but as you can see, I do not use them correctly :D is it necessary to put there "meg" ? mert "és" means "and" too :/

https://www.duolingo.com/FuzzyLittleToe

It's hard to explain the difference, it's subtle. So Pandamaci originally wrote: "Yey, that's so good! But only if I couldn't speak English." The "És én nem tudok magyarul beszélni." translates literally as "And I can't speak Hungarian.", but for Hungarians it sounds more like "Furthermore, I can't speak Hungarian." The "Én meg nem tudok magyarul beszélni." would sound more like "I, on the other hand, can't speak Hungarian." While the first one sounds very "matter-of-factish", the latter emphasizes more on the contrast between the two lines, which makes it funny :)

I can't wait for the Hungarian for English speakers to finally go to beta but, in the mean time, I've been learning as much as I can by using the English for Hungarian speakers course. I can already read and pronounce it tolerably and, know a few words from my mother and from songs . My prgress is slow but, I'm gradually puzzling out whatever I can. It feels like being a baby, just imitating and trying to recognise patterns until it starts to make a bit of sense. It's a fun way to go about it. Anyone else learning a language backwards?

I must confess I have not yet worked out what is going on. A team of people is writing language courses which are being revised with the help of "students'. Is that right? I have been working on the Turkish and Hungarian, languages I know fairly well. But it's hard work getting the 30 marks before running out of red hearts. Word order is sometimes a bugbear. There are a few examples of faulty English which I report. Seems I am at level 6 in hungarian, level 5 in Turkish. I plan to work right through if it remains available. Congratulations to the course writers. There are several odd examples, like owls sitting in buses, but I wish you all success. Ted Jeavons
