How does one know when "een" is optional?

Last question for the whole Dutch course! It's been such an interesting experience to learn a new language with Duo XD. Gonna continue this 377 days streak with revisions and perhaps with Danish as well! A huge thanks to those answering my questions and also those who had asked the once I was about to ask XD. Tot ziens!

Wonder about this too. Where did the "een" before "dijk" go? :)

I have to translate "one" to Dutch, but it doesn't accept "men" it only accepts "Je" which would be the wrong (/less direct) translation, unless I'm missing something?
