Technical problem with some sentence discussions
I've already posted this here in the German troubleshooting forum, and the other participant suggested I should post it in the English forum so that eventually the developers can have a look into it.
Sometimes I can't access a sentence discussion. I click the link, but nothing happens.
It happened more than once, and when I had this problem during a "normal" lesson (not during strengthening), I paid attention and repeated the lesson because I wanted to find out about it.
I am learning French from German, and it was lesson 4 of plurals: https://www.duolingo.com/skill/fr/Plurals.
At the beginning I was able to access sentence discussions. I couldn't do that with the sentence "Les garçons lisent les recettes.", and after that I couldn't access any sentence discussion.
In a second pass I skipped that discussion and was then able to access later sentence discussions. Now that's weird!
Later I searched the forum for that special sentence. I found it in several languages, and I could access some of them, but none of them was German. There was one link though that just showed a grey page: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/10094878. I suspect that this is the German page.
Is this a known bug?
[Edit: I have no idea why the links don't show as links. I tried to fix it, but it didn't work. Sorry for inconvenience.]
Yes, this is a known and very annoying bug. Once you hit a discussion page that does not work you cannot access any sentence discussions during the remainder of that exercise. It will work again during the next exercise.
Thanks for answering. Has there ever been a reaction from staff? It is really annoying, especially if you are strengthening and can't simply redo the same lesson.
And what about the sentence discussions that are not accessible? What's the best way to get them fixed? Report them as a problem during the session with the report button? Reporting them in the forum with a link is quite a bit of a hassle because you have to find them first, and the search function is not the best here. On the other hand I don't know who has to handle the reports, and I don't want to load the moderators with even more work.
Here is a topic from a year ago about this problem. I don't know whether there was a bug report filed then. I thought I remembered another topic about the inaccessible pages but I can't find it right now.
Using the report button for sentences is not useful. Those reports go to course moderators. If you want to report the problem you can do it here
Thank you very much for the additional information and links. I've filed a bug report.
Yes, exceptionally annoying... Honestly, given how much Duolingo seems to value the metrics of A/B tests in seeing what drives users away or keeps them, I'm surprised they don't consider that this infuriating bug could well be a reason that learners get frustrated and leave.
