A question about the Español ----> Francés Course

I want to start the Spanish ---> French course but it doesn't seem to want to let me do it within my current profile. Will Duolingo be changing this soon? Or, should I start a new "Spanish profile" for Spanish to the French, and later, Portuguese course? ¡Gracias!

Is it not available in the settings/language drop-down menu?

It is, but it totally changes your profile. I want to maintain my current profile, but be able access Spanish ---> French. I think I'm just going to create a Spanish ---> other languages profile, though.

Better to have one account. I am sure later duolingo will improve the menu access/display, and who knows, maybe to integrate the profile and stats too.

It should be there. I found it on mine.

Alt text

This is how it looks from the beta layout, it might look a little different for folks with the other layout.

When you select this option, if your current profile does not have spanish as it's base language, your previous skills will look like they disappear. However, once you change your language back, all of those settings and accomplishments are still their waiting so long as you have not clicked the buttons that say "reset" or "remove" language.

Did the screen shot answer your question? If not, I might be misunderstanding your question, your layout might look different than mine, you might be having a technical glitch. If that last one is the case, I would suggest moving this post directly to the Troubleshooting forum. Instructions here: http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1254215 last bullet point.

The issue is that this is incredibly annoying to do when you have to do it several times a day. I found this thread looking for the same question for the same reason; I hope they change it soon because I can tell it's already going to drive me nuts.

A second account might save my sanity...!

You'll get used to it. I do it all the time switching between my English --> Spanish and my Spanish --> English courses. It is easier to do on the iPad (which automatically syncs with changing my settings on the website too), but beta courses aren't in the app yet.

I don't want to get used to it, it's bad design!
