Filipino is the language of the Philippines, based on Tagalog, it has over 90 million native speakers. Mostly, the words are borrowed from both Spanish and Tagalog, and sometimes even from the other languages in the Philippines (like Cebuano). I posted this here because I think it would be easy to learn for Spanish speakers since there are a lot of Filipino words from Spanish, also there are less verb conjugations.

Here are some examples: 1. Good day - Magandang araw 2. Good night - Magandang gabí 3. I love you - Mahal kitá 4. Hello - Kumusta, Hello, Hoy, Padayon (There is actually no direct translation but here are the words we use for saying Hi) 5. I eat apples - Kumakain akó ng mansanas 6. My hovercraft is full of eels - Ang hovercraft ko ay punô ng palos

I've already sent multiple requests to the Incubator, but still to no avail :( So I decided to make this discussion so I could see (and the Duolingo creators could see) if people will learn Filipino if there was a course on it. So, if there were a Filipino Course for English/Spanish Speakers would you learn?

Hello, yes, I sure would! I'd prefer a course for English speakers though, as my English is a lot better than my Spanish. I hope we'll see a Filipino course added here soon. Have a few lingots!

Sorry hahahah it's funny 'cause I really mix up my Esperanto and Spanish. In Esperanto, there is no "las" just "la".

My mother is from Mindanao and the majority of my family lives in the Philippines. It's pained me for years that I can't even begin to talk to some of these family members simply because of the language barrier. Needless to say, if some awesome volunteers managed to convince Duolingo to greenlight a Filipino language project, I'd be more excited than the day Esperanto was announced. :P

I'd definitely be interested! I've had my Filipino friends helping me out with the language, but it's really hard to find learning materials (especially here, in Poland). I wouldn't mind the course from either English or Spanish.

Hopefully we'll see this on Duolingo! Have some lingots as well. ^-^

I love filipinas, like filipinos, very kind people! And it is very funny how they mixed up spanish with another asian language! I would most likely give it a try.
