I was taught that "à cause de" is used for describing an outcome with a negative context (ie "à cause de nous, il est mort") Assuming it is a good outcome that they are writing books, wouldn't "grace à" be more appropriate?

Actually, we don't know about the context. Both interpretations could be valid.
