A sentence a day. A tip from me to you.

I finished my Italian tree once already and I am going at it again from the very beginning until level 25.

A strategy that i decided to start doing is to get a 500 page notepad and write one full sentence in Italian per day.

You can use google translate and just make up a sentence.

For example my beginning sentence was:

ho deciso di imparare l'italiano per essere in grado di parlare con mia nonna ei miei cugini in Italia .

(I decided to learn Italian to be able to speak with my grandmother and my cousins in Italy )

I look at it over and over and write it down in my notepad. I say it out loud until i can say it without looking at it.

Then, the next day, I do another sentence. Do that for 1 month and see how well your language learning progress gets.

Ciao Ciao - john Galliano

This may work for some, but it certainly works for me.

Nice addition to methods for learning! I am always impressed with how creative people are in developing their own techniques.

Exactly, no matter what Level you are on. I think it could be therapeutic too! You are writing down a sentence or even a paragraph on anything you would like to write about, keeping a diary, and watching yourself progress. I usually just do a sentence or 2 on what I did throughout the day. I am learning while I am learning!

I like the diary idea. Great way to keep a journal private from nosy roommates while improving your italian.

Exactly! I write everything in other languages and my room mates can't read any of it. One line will be italian, another French, and so on.... they would REALLY REALLY have to go out of their way to translate it. :)

Great idea... even if at first you have to use google translate to get it.. you still learn it by reviewing it every day.. sort of like Duo on paper :-)
I constantly translate everyday english in my head into Italian.. then when I think i have it correct I use google translate to check myself... I find myself doing that with song lyrics a lot.

Good Luck and enjoy it! I went from not speaking a single word to being able to hold long phone conversations with my Cousins in Italy in around 7-8 months of daily practice.

Such a great idea. I just started using duolingo on Monday and its amazing how much I've learned so far. I speak what I have learned as often as I can even if its just to myself. It helps me retain the words. I'm going to start doing what you suggested, I would have never thought to do that. Awesome post !!!

No problem, like i said in other posts, i didn't know a single word when i started and I can hold looong conversations. Dual language books are awesome too! I have the book Alice in wonderland with English on the left page and Italian on the right. Same for French and Spanish. :) Good luck! :) ¡puedes hacerlo! Solo el trabajo un poco todos los días peq

whats a tree? I'm new i have no idea and whats the incubator

A tree is the lessons in a given language... the home page sort of looks like a tree... you start at the top and work your way to the bottom.... The incubator is behind the scenes where duo develops new lessons and new languages.
